THE SCHOOL PROFILE
Pandanon Elementary School was created in the year 1959. The school is located along the National highway. It is located at the heart of Barangay Pandanon, Mabinay, Negros Oriental and nine (9) km away from the District Office. The school has a total land area of 5,000 sq. meters that is recently accommodating 16 classrooms. It has a plain terrain. The school does not have enough space for gardening/food production purposes. However with less than 800 sq. m. land area, the school had launched a project “Gulayan sa Paaralan” to augment its school’s feeding program.
Pandanon Elementary School is headed by a Principal and supported by 15 nationally paid teachers from grade 1-6 and 1 regular Kindergarten Teacher. The said barangay is about nine (9) kilometers northeast of the town proper and about seventy-eight (78) kilometers away from Dumaguete City. Its people observe piously worship days as prescribed in their respective religion. Fiesta is one of the great celebrations the people are into. Several entertaining activities are launched within the fiesta duration. They’re busy preparing special foods and decorating their homes, their plaza and the chapels. Visitors from neighboring barangays, from the other towns and cities would enjoy the food and the presentations.
Geo-PoliticalFarmer’s Day is another special event for farmers to showcase their products. Visitors from nearby barangays and from other towns hover along and enjoy the food and varied presentations. Officials from the Municipal Government are with them in their significant celebrations.
Sipong is another celebration the people would have every year. This is a thanksgiving activity done after the harvest. This is usually done in the beach. The laborers who helped in the harvest are the ones invited and fed with the family members. Vast areas of land in Pandanon are utilized and are planted with sugar cane. These are owned by small recipients who have ownership rights through the VOS (Voluntary Offer to Sell) executed by big land owner. Some parts of the land are tilled for rice, corn and root crops. The residents observe ordinances and policies set by the local officials. The local officials are able to impose discipline to their constituents. Due process is practiced that generally results to a peaceful settlement of disputes. People in the Barangay are free to make queries, give referrals and file complaints at the Barangay Captain’s desk. School Head is often invited to attend sessions to contribute in planning. He/she is also involved in the implementation of some projects aligned with the thrust of the Department of Education. Barangay Tanods are organized and are active in maintaining peace and order of the whole Barangay. |
